“After losing two batteries to heat in a flat-mounted array, I learned that a 20-degree tilt is the only thing keeping my system alive in central Queensland summers.”
Get the tilt wrong? You'll get 10-20% less power. That's 10-20% more batteries you need. Or more generator use. Or less fridge time.
Do the math: 10% less output = 10% more panels or batteries. That's $500-$1,500 extra. Just set the angle right.
One last thing: If you're in the tropics (north of 23°S), use latitude minus 10° for summer. But only if you actually adjust it. Most don't. So just use latitude.
⚠️ SAFETY WARNING: Working with high-voltage systems can be lethal. Always disconnect power before working on electrical systems and follow AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules. If unsure, consult a licensed electrician.
