Most "portable" packs use cheap 18650 cells. Bad idea. You want LiFePO4 (LFP) – not the cheap lithium-ion. Why? LFP lasts 3x longer (2000+ cycles), handles heat better, and won't turn your shed into a fire hazard. Cheap packs? They'll die in 2 years. LFP? 5-7 years in the outback.
Capacity (Wh) is king. 200Wh? Useless. Aim for 500Wh minimum. That's 1000W for 30 minutes – enough for a fridge, lights, and phone. 1000Wh? You're talking serious off-grid living.
Without a proper BMS (Battery Management System), your pack is a ticking bomb. Cheap packs skip it. Real ones have:
If the pack doesn't list BMS specs, bin it. No exceptions. We've seen packs catch fire in Queensland sheds. Don't be the bloke who learns the hard way.
Plastic? Forget it. You need:

Practical Tip #2: Test it before you go. Charge it fully, run your gear for 2 hours. If it dies, return it. No "maybe" – it's off-grid or it's not.
Forget Chinese knockoffs. These are tested in Aussie conditions:

Price note: Don't pay $300 for a "500Wh" pack. It's either lead-acid (heavy, short life) or fake capacity. Real LFP starts at $600.
Portable battery packs for off-grid Australia: Get LFP, get BMS, get IP65. Skip the cheap stuff. Pay $800 now, not $2000 later for a replacement. Your fridge, lights, and sanity depend on it.
